TMUA Mock — 1–2 August

In recent admissions cycles, the TMUA has been widely perceived by candidates as more demanding than many of the publicly available historic papers. Although the official content specification and general style of questioning remain unchanged, recent candidates have frequently reported a greater emphasis on unfamiliar problem-solving, less immediately apparent solution methods and sustained mathematical reasoning under significant time pressure. The interpretation of TMUA scores has also changed. Under the 2023 scoring system, approximately one-third of candidates achieved an overall score above 6.5. Under the current scale, a typical candidate scores around 4.5, while approximately 10% achieve a score above 7.0. Therefore, scores obtained on older papers cannot always be compared directly with scores awarded under the current system. This mock examination has been designed with these developments in mind. It aims to reproduce the increased problem-solving intensity, tighter time constraints and less predictable progression of difficulty associated with recent TMUA sittings, while remaining fully within the official specification. Candidates should therefore treat the paper as an opportunity to practise selecting efficient methods, adapting to unfamiliar questions and maintaining accuracy under realistic examination conditions. Full TMUA sitting matching the current UAT-UK format: Paper 1 Applications of Mathematical Knowledge (20 MCQs, 75 min) then Paper 2 Mathematical Reasoning (20 MCQs, 75 min). No calculator. No negative marking.
